Lethal and sublethal effects of azulene and longifolene to Microtox(R), Ceriodaphnia dubia, Daphnia magna, and Pimephales promelas.

چکیده
The data from this study were needed to investigate the aquatic toxicity of the natural compounds azulene and longifolene, which were representatives of nearly 500 compounds of 19 chemical classes tentatively identified in Laurentian Great Lakes fish (Hesselberg and Seelye 1982; Passino and Smith 1987). There are growing concerns over the potential toxic and ecological effects of these hydroand superhydrophobic contaminants, with special regard to their accumulation and transport (Skoglund and Swackhamer 1994). To support the concentration-response evaluations and to estimate exposure, quantitative structure-activity relationships were used as predictive tools of toxicity.

Assessing caffeine as an emerging environmental concern using conventional approaches.
Organic wastewater contaminants, including pharmaceuticals, caffeine, and nicotine, have received increased scrutiny because of their detection in water bodies receiving wastewater discharge. Despite recent measurement in United States streams, caffeine's effect on freshwater organisms is not well documented. The present study measured caffeine's lethal and sublethal effects on the freshwater s...
متن کاملMulti-linear regression models predict the effects of water chemistry on acute lead toxicity to Ceriodaphnia dubia and Pimephales promelas.
The current study examined the acute toxicity of lead (Pb) to Ceriodaphnia dubia and Pimephales promelas in a variety of natural waters. The natural waters were selected to range in pertinent water chemistry parameters such as calcium, pH, total CO(2) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC). Acute toxicity was determined for C. dubia and P. promelas using standard 48h and 96h protocols, respectively...
متن کاملInfluences of water chemistry on the acute toxicity of lead to Pimephales promelas and Ceriodaphnia dubia.
The acute toxicity of lead (Pb) was examined for fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas; 96-h) and daphnids (Ceriodaphnia dubia; 48-h) in waters modified for hardness (as CaSO₄), dissolved organic carbon (DOC; as Aldrich humic acid) and alkalinity (as NaHCO₃) for parameterization of an acute freshwater biotic ligand model (BLM). Additionally, acute (96-h) and chronic (30-d) bioassays were perform...
متن کاملDeveloping demographic toxicity data: optimizing effort for predicting population outcomes
Mounting evidence suggests that population endpoints in risk assessment are far more accurate than static assessments. Complete demographic toxicity data based on full life tables are eminently useful in predicting population outcomes in many applications because they capture both lethal and sublethal effects; however, developing these life tables is extremely costly. In this study we investiga...
